Regional support builds for Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone

Members of Parliament – together with energy, industry, business and training leaders – have pledged their support for the Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone (NLAIGZ), the shovel-ready project to bring 2.5 GW of computing power to Northern Lincolnshire.
If designated, NLAIGZ would nearly double the UK’s current compute capacity, anchor more than £20 billion of private investment, and create thousands of high-quality jobs and skills opportunities in Northern Lincolnshire and the wider Humber region.
Greystoke has partnered with North Lincolnshire Council to propose the project, following the Government’s announcement in early 2025 that AI Growth Zones would be designated to unlock investment in AI-enabled data centres.
“The Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone is a transformational opportunity for our region,” said Lee Pitcher, MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, “It will deliver thousands of skilled jobs, boost local supply chains, and bring billions of pounds of private investment. This will support the creation of a world-leading data centre cluster that brings real benefits to Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme”.
“I strongly welcome the proposals for the Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone,” said Martin Vickers, MP for Brigg and Immingham, “This is a project of national significance that will also deliver tangible benefits locally by creating skilled jobs, attracting major investment, and strengthening our industrial base.”
”The Humber leads the UK’s clean energy revolution, and the Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone seeks to build on that success,” said Melanie Onn, MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, “Locating major AI and data infrastructure alongside our offshore wind and carbon capture industries will mean new investment, high-value jobs, and new skills opportunities for people across Grimsby, Cleethorpes, and the wider region.”
Regional energy, industry, business and training leaders have also firmly backed Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone. An NLAIGZ partnership forum has launched, with members including Greystoke, the Humber Energy Board, Humber Freeport, North Lincolnshire Council, CATCH and the Federation of Small Businesses.
The NLAIGZ partnership forum held its inaugural meeting last week, with representatives from energy companies also taking part. Members agreed on how the partnership forum will operate and also considered how they can work together to drive local skills growth, the development of regional energy projects and local innovation.
“Energy generators, industry, business, and skills providers are backing Northern Lincolnshire AI Growth Zone,” said Sam Matthew, COO of Greystoke, “The AI Growth Zone will bring many thousands of well-paid jobs, see 30% of the supply chain sourced locally, and £50m of investment in training and education. It will also help to support the region’s innovative clean energy industry.”
“NLAIGZ will significantly boost the UK’s competitiveness in AI, delivering 2.5 GW of compute capacity, 500MW of it by 2029,” Sam added.
